When the LA Sports & Entertainment Commission (LASEC) was founded in 1995 by a group of visionary civic leaders, their stated mission for LASEC was to “seek, host, promote and retain major sporting and entertainment events that positively impact the local economy.”
Now, in our twelfth year, we are proud to say that LASEC has created tremendous economic impact for Los Angeles by attracting thousands of visitors to the City, giving them a reason to stay longer and return more frequently, all the while reinforcing Los Angeles as the Sports and Entertainment Capital of the World, an event destination for national and international visitors alike.
Over the last ten years, hundreds of significant sports and entertainment events were successfully staged in Los Angeles, and the coming year will be even bigger and more exciting. The 2005 Rose Bowl Game and Tournament of Roses Parade generated over $200 million of direct spending and another $200 million of indirect spending to Los Angeles. Additionally, the 2005 City of Los Angeles Marathon generated $62 million of spending and continues to grow in size and prestige.
Some of the other events Los Angeles hosted over the last two years include the BCS National Championship Game, GRAMMY Awards, the NBA All-Star Game, the ESPY Awards, X Games, NFL Quarterback Challenge, NFL 101/201 and Basketball 101 with the Los Angeles Lakers. Those events were in addition to our annual events like the Academy Awards, Primetime Emmy Awards, City of Los Angeles Marathon and the Rose Bowl Game. We continue to work diligently to bring several other high-profile events to our City.
We are pleased with our successes to date and appreciate the outstanding support we have received from our Official Marketing Partners – American Express, Delta Air Lines, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, First American Title Insurance Company, LA INC. The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau, Longo Toyota/Scion/Lexus and Penske Motor Group, Sprint and Wachovia - and our Corporate Members - Bank of America, DLA Piper US LLP, Integrated Transportation Services, Inc. (ITS), Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, Saks Fifth Avenue Beverly Hills, Sidley Austin LLP and Western Asset Management Company.
The competition for attracting high-profile events is intense, so LASEC works to ensure that these events enjoy a positive experience and the full support of the City. LASEC is a private nonprofit organization and an affiliate of LA INC. The Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau.
