Los Angeles Celebrates A Lasting FIFA World Cup 2026™ Legacy As More Than 500 Youth Take The Pitch At “Play Where The Legends Played” Community Event

Following eight matches that welcomed 561,656 fans to Los Angeles Stadium, the region marked the conclusion of local match play by opening up the Los Angeles Stadium (SoFi Stadium) pitch, where these matches took place, to more than 500 youth and families during Sunday’s “Play Where the Legends Played” legacy celebration—symbolically passing the inspiration of the world’s game to the next generation.

On July 12, the Los Angeles World Cup 2026 Host Committee invited participants from their 26 Community Champion organizations for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to step onto the same pitch that hosted FIFA World Cup 2026™ in Los Angeles, kicking soccer balls, scoring goals, taking photos and creating lifelong memories.

The event embodied the Los Angeles World Cup 2026 Host Committee’s vision from the very beginning—that hosting the world’s biggest sporting event should create opportunities that extend far beyond the final whistle. Through the support of ChampionLA donors Bob Graziano and Wendy Wachtell, Jeanie Buss, the Stephen and Regina Oswald Foundation, the Greg and Patty Penske family, California Resources Corporation and the Wallis Annenberg Legacy Foundation, hundreds of local youth and families experienced the tournament both inside the stadium attending the matches and, on the pitch, following the final match in Los Angeles.
