Soccer “finally got in the door” of SoFi’s $5.5B stadium last night, as LAFC and the Galaxy faced Liga MX’s Club America and C.D. Guadalajara in front of a sold-out crowd, showing that L.A. is a “soccer market,” according to Kevin Baxter of the L.A. TIMES. Organizers said attendance for the Leagues Cup Showcase exhibition doubleheader “was 71,189, a sellout.” Last weekend LAFC, NWSL Angel City and the second-division Orange County Soccer Club “all played before sold-out stadiums while an international friendly between Juventus and Real Madrid filled the Rose Bowl.” Add those totals to yesterday’s crowd and club soccer “has drawn more than 212,000 fans to four Southern California venues in the last six days.” Galaxy President Chris Klein said, “It shows what Los Angeles is as a soccer market.
