The College Football Playoff National Championship Runs
Through Los Angeles
We are now less than 100 DAYS away from hosting the College Football Playoff (CFP) National Championship on January 9, 2023, at SoFi Stadium. This will be the first national championship back in the Los Angeles region since the introduction of the College Football Playoff system in 2015.
Like the Super Bowl, the CFP National Championship Host Committee is dedicated to leaving a legacy of positive impact in the communities of Greater Los Angeles. With that goal in mind, the Host Committee, alongside the LA84 Foundation and the CFP Foundation, has launched the “Champions Educate Here” initiative. We will identify 46 educators who are using sport, play, and movement to nurture the academic, mental health, and social-emotional needs of students. Each selected educator will receive up to $20,000 to expand their work.
Last month, our first 23 educators were publicly recognized on the field at the USC vs. Fresno State game in front of a packed house at the LA Memorial Coliseum. Thank you to USC Athletic Director Mike Bohn and McCall Hall for making this moment a reality.
Over the coming weeks, we will share these amazing stories with you—preview the program trailer here. To learn more about the application requirements and to nominate an educator, visit LosAngeles2023.com/legacy.
LASEC Business Connect
South LA Cafe is one of 200 businesses selected to be a part of the LASEC Business Connect program—the official supplier diversity program for the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission, originated in partnership with the NFL for Super Bowl LVI and now supported by ChampionLA donors.
This family-owned coffee shop and cultural center located in the heart of South Central Los Angeles has become a fixture for the community. Over the years, Joe and Celia Ward-Wallace have built a safe space where they can focus on fighting racial, social, economic, and food inequities, while serving up some delicious brews.
